Cuban X-Giants

Long before the Negro Leagues were officially organized, the Cuban X-Giants were proving that Black baseball belonged among the game’s elite. Formed in 1896 from members of the original Cuban Giants, they became one of the most dominant independent Black clubs of their era, winning multiple championships while featuring pioneers such as Rube Foster and John Henry “Pop” Lloyd. Their success helped legitimize Black professional baseball and laid the foundation for the leagues that would follow.
