Memphis Red Sox

Founded in 1920, the Memphis Red Sox became one of the South’s most enduring Negro League franchises. Under the ownership of Dr. J. B. Martin, one of the few Black physicians to own a professional baseball team, the organization became a symbol of entrepreneurship, community leadership, and athletic excellence. Their legacy extended beyond baseball by creating opportunities for generations of Black athletes across the South.
