Philadelphia Stars

Founded in 1933 by businessman Ed Bolden, the Philadelphia Stars quickly rose to prominence by winning the 1934 Negro National League Championship. Hall of Famers Jud Wilson, Biz Mackey, and Dick Lundy helped establish a culture of discipline, toughness, and championship baseball. Their success reflected the strength of a city whose passion for the game helped shape generations of Black athletes.
